Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS)

As you may have heard, the French Bulldog recently surpassed the Labrador Retriever as the most popular breed in the country. We all love the smush-faced (brachycephalic) breeds like the French Bulldog, English Bulldog, Pug and others.

Common to these breeds is a very noisy airway. Some think the snorting, snoring, pig type sounds are cute. Unfortunately, these sounds indicate a significant health problem for these dogs. It should NOT be considered normal or cute.

Fortunately, Vetcetera has surgical laser – the perfect tool to correct this problem.

Below, you can see before and after images. The first set of photos shows stenotic (narrow) nostrils which restrict airflow. The bottom photos shows the open nostrils after surgical corretion.

The second set of photos shows an elongated soft palate (blue oval) and the resected palate after surgical correction.

We are excited offer this procedure to dramatically improve the lives of our smush-faced friends If you have one of the affected breeds and want to learn more, please give our office a call at 570-345-3250 or click here.
